Lamb Kebabs & Summertime

Summer is in full swing here in Pflugerville, TX.  Our kind friends gave us this little charcoal grill that has turned into one our favorite things. Of all time. Here is an example of an everyday conversation between Fleetwood and I:

(After we've already eaten) Fleet: Do you want me to fire up the grill?
Me: Why?
Fleet: (Trying hard to think of a good reason) I just want to use it. Find something to throw on it.

I don't know if eating outside under little bistro lights is a universal joy, or if I just enjoy it because that's what we grew up doing. Either way, life seems to slow down and it becomes easier to be thankful. As I sit on the porch watching Fleet grill, I think of some things i'm currently thankful for:

  • Our church, the Austin Stone. We're going through the 10 Commandments right now and I can't believe how gripping it is. I'm thankful for a church that shows me how important the things I gloss over are. I especially like this one, on idolatry. (I don't really picture anyone clicking on that link and listening to a whole sermon, but I promise it's sooooo good. Listen on a commute or a run- if you feel inclined.)
  • Running. I have been running pretty much my whole life but I go through seasons where I like it more or less. Right now, i'm all in. I'm even considering signing up for the Austin Marathon. Anyone around here planning on running it?
  • My family. Lately I've had all these flashbacks to my childhood and I keep thinking how fortunate I am to have grown up in the home I did. I'm really thankful my parents taught me about Jesus. There were always people around and SO much laughter. I'm also thankful for more recent times when God has taught me that family was never meant to replace my security in HIM. (Shout out to my parents for getting me that cute serving tray shown below! Love you guys!)
  • An album by Young Oceans called "Voices, Vol. 1" It's on Spotify and I've been obsessively listening to it over and over. Even though it's not really a "pump-up" type album, I've been listening to it over and over on my runs. Every single song on it is good!
  • Fresh Food. Right now in life, we live so close to some of the best food. I don't know if that will always last. I don't think it's the most important thing in life either, but today I am so glad to have fresh veggies, spices, and lamb. Also, thanks to my Greek friend, Marcy, for teaching me how to make the BEST tzatziki! I have some good memories sitting on your porch in Athens when Fleet and I had just gotten engaged! You spoiled us with the best food & wine! :)
  • My husband. He will do anything to make me laugh. On an unrelated note, if anyone knows where I can find a manly apron, that would be much appreciated. :)
